Powdered Peanut Butter: The “Right” Kind of Peanut Butter to Buy
2 Tablespoons of peanut butter = 190 calories , 8 grams of protein, 16g fat. This is a sad truth.
Peanut butter (pb) should therefore NOT be considered a “Go-To” protein for most days because it far exceeds the 10:1 ratio rule for calories to protein.
So what’s a peanut butter lover to do?!
Enter powdered peanut butter. This is made by squeezing natural oils out of the peanuts and then dehydrating what’s left. The result is low calorie peanut powder in which 90% of the fat has been removed.
2 Tablespoons of powdered peanut butter protein = 45-50 calories, 5 grams of protein, 1.5 g fat.
Here are some of the popular name brands of powdered pb you can find in stores including Walmart, Sprouts, Frys, Albertsons, Summit Hut, and of course online.
Powdered peanut butter can be found in the same aisle as regular peanut butters.
(Note: There is peanut butter out there touted as “bariatric peanut butter,” but it’s twice the calories as these for about the same amount of protein. So use the powdered stuff!!)
- PB2
- Just the Great Stuff

Here are some creative ways to use powdered peanut butter:
- Mix it with a little water and spread it like you would spread “normal” pb.
- Sprinkle it in plain nonfat greek yogurt to make pb pudding.
- Sprinkle in it in lowfat cottage cheese or lowfat ricotta to make pb “cheesecake.”
- Mix water or unsweetened almond milk + whey protein powder (vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry) + powdered pb.
